I loved the welcome I received, and the first class service. Whilst I've taken clients there whilst working in York a few years ago, I've never had the opportunity to stay. Can't wait to come back.
The double bed really wasn't a double bed - it was too large singles pushed together. As we like sleeping tucked up together, I kept disappearing down the joint all night - spoilt a little what was supposed to be a romantic occasion!

Booked The Middlethorpe based on excellent reviews from previous visitors and it lived up to those comments, in fact for us it surpassed them. Ideal for couples looking to get away from it all. If you want a hotel with unrivaled service, attention to detail and outstanding food, this is the place for you.

Great staff, friendly, and helpful. Service was good. Room was lovely
While the room/s were lovely, the bathroom was very small - for anyone with any physical problem, getting into the bath to turn the shower on could have been difficult, and for a modern but architecturally old building, still having blankets to cope with was one of the surprises for the standard of reputable quality you provide - a change of policy on bed covers would not go amiss. Especially as in the last 9 months I have stayed in many hotels of different qualities throughout Europe, Asia and Australia, and there, I cannot remember seeing a blanket! Otherwise a lovely stay.

A really well run establishment with well trained and efficient staff.
The fish at dinner was overcooked.

A beautiful country house, with helpful, friendly staff. From our small sample, excellent food. Very difficult to find any fault.

The gardens are fine, with colorful borders and interesting trees that create a lovely atmosphere. The drawing room offers a cozy spot with a fireplace.
The room I stayed in had tiny windows that let in very little natural light. Limited dining options nearby didn't provide much flexibility for meals, and some of the food served, particularly during breakfast and the evening light bites, was like they could have used a little more attention. The swimming pool was a touch on the cool side for my liking, which might not bother some but didn't quite hit the mark for me.
